Growing pressure on eye care

Eye care across Europe is coming under increasing pressure. In Germany, 30 per cent of ophthalmologists are already aged 60 or older and approaching retirement, while demand for consultations is rising at the same time due to an ageing population. The result is waiting times of sometimes several months.

Mira connects optometrists and ophthalmologists digitally

Mira offers a low-threshold alternative. Optometrists can perform measurements on-site, such as retinal imaging, intraocular pressure measurements and visual acuity tests, and digitally transmit the results to an ophthalmologist for evaluation. That evaluation is delivered within 24 to 48 hours. The report does not constitute a diagnosis, but flags whether there are any abnormalities that warrant further investigation. If so, Mirantus also helps arrange a follow-up appointment through a nationwide network of more than 400 ophthalmologists. Mira is already active at over 200 locations.
