Programma Population Health

Why

Since the 1980s, people in the Netherlands have been living with an increasing number of unhealthy years. Those with fewer opportunities are affected the most. At the same time, pressure on healthcare continues to rise, participation declines and workforce shortages are increasing.

The urgency of putting health first is widely recognised across society. Research shows that 75% of Dutch citizens believe health and wellbeing should become a greater priority in keeping the Netherlands liveable, resilient and prosperous.

What

De Gezondheidstransitie brings together health funds, social organisations, knowledge institutions, governments, businesses and citizens to make health a structural part of policy and daily life.

The programme stimulates a shift from disease and healthcare towards health and prevention. This means investing in healthy living environments, strong communities and equal opportunities for good health. Not only within healthcare, but also in schools, neighbourhoods, workplaces, sports clubs and social networks.

Through collaboration, shared knowledge and collective action, we are building a society in which health becomes accessible to everyone.

Noaber

De Gezondheidstransitie demonstrates that health is a shared responsibility. By connecting organisations and citizens, stronger networks emerge, alongside greater engagement and solutions that better reflect people’s everyday lives.

This initiative is part of our Population Health Programme, through which we work on sustainable solutions to strengthen the health of neighbourhoods, communities and populations.
