Introductie Noaber Foundation: Driving Change - Improving Health
Noaber is a family foundation that occupies a unique position among Dutch foundations. We take on persistent social challenges ("wicked problems") and promote cooperation between private and public organizations (triple helix). We play an active role in advising the investments and donations for our programs. We are not looking for quick solutions, but rather systemic change.
We focus on the health domain, pursuing the Quadruple Aims of:
More healthy years of life at lower costs. That is the change we want to set in motion; based on the philosophy of positive health and the conviction that prevention is better than cure. We believe in continuously challenging the status quo of Dutch healthcare in our role as independent pioneer, developer, connector and initiator. We focus on areas with sufficient untapped potential. This is how we work to create a future-proof healthcare system and a market position as the authority in promoting health and healthy living.
Driving change and improving health defines both the role we want to play and the goal we want to achieve. In doing so, we often choose the road less traveled. This is why we exist. This is, and always will be, what drives us.
This goal is currently more relevant than ever! We put everything we have into improving people's health. We strive to make the world a healthier and more sustainable place by stimulating innovations and change that positively impact health, healthcare costs and the experience of both patients and healthcare professionals.
Systemic change is necessary in order for our programs to be sustainable. Addressing the root causes of ill health requires reaching out to a variety of groups in society on multiple levels.
Governments, healthcare organizations, businesses, suppliers, communities and ultimately individuals are all interconnected. On a systemic level, all of these relationships matter, like "cogs in a machine" that influence each other. For better or for worse. Influencing these relationships can create lasting change, allowing more people to live a healthy life. This requires validation, adaptation of new protocols, guidelines and reimbursement, change in processes and technology, and a different mindset. We want to help create these preconditions.
Our programs focus specifically on systemic change in healthcare and we invest in innovative start-up companies within the health domain.
We are guided by our cultural compass. It is calibrated to the Christian roots of the family that founded Noaber and orients us in realizing our mission.
The (Magn)ethic North typifies the core value that is also reflected in our name: noaberschap (neighborliness).
The Entrepreneurial East represents our core value of entrepreneurship. The Wild West incorporates our core value of innovation. Finally, the Spirited South represents our core value of courage.
Health care systems are under pressure from an aging society burdened by decades of unhealthy lifestyle choices. These challenges are compounded by a shortage of healthcare personnel.
Keeping everyone healthy for as long as possible at the lowest possible cost. This is our dream. In our vision, extending the period in which we lead healthy lives, or as healthy as possible, is the key to ensuring sustainable, affordable and accessible health care. We put everything we have into pushing through the necessary groundbreaking changes that no one else is focusing on. This requires a healthy dose of guts, creativity, active involvement and entrepreneurship. We believe that no challenge is too big and every change starts with a first step, no matter how small.
We define health according to Machteld Huber's concept of positive health: people's ability to adapt and take charge of their own lives in the face of the physical, emotional and social challenges of life.
We currently spend 90-95% of healthcare costs on curative care. But the need for curative care is often the result of years of incremental steps in an unhealthy lifestyle combined with an aging body, which then reduces the quality of life.
The challenges in healthcare are clear, but the solutions are complicated. Our health care systems are highly regulated with tight budgets, overburdened staff and diffused processes of decision making. Innovation that drives systemic change is therefore difficult and require long term thinking and actions.
We need visionary leaders who can initiate and support change in the complex world of healthcare to make this happen. Noaber is here to help these frontrunners with a donation through our programs or an investment in a new innovative company.
We have the knowledge, the network, the creativity and the guts to bring about systemic change. Where the established order fails and where traditional forms of financing are inadequate, we look for new ways and technologies and make new, strategic connections between people and organizations with a common vision. Together we tackle social challenges that have a very real chance of failing. But what if they succeed? That mindset is exactly why the world needs "Noabers:" neighbors promoting groundbreaking changes for an inclusive, healthy society.
We do this in two ways. Through our own programs, where we work on systemic changes in various healthcare domains through interconnected projects. And through investments in impactful healthcare technology companies. Our role is to drive change. We initiate and accelerate a systemic and collaborative approach that integrates stakeholders' interests and perspectives and forms the foundation for a sustainable transition.
