Programma sociale gezondheid
For young people, sport is a passion, but volunteering is often difficult to fit in. Elderly people move less and see their social circle getting smaller. The Social Sports School builds a bridge: young people use their sport as a means for social contact, the elderly get new energy and new faces around them. In this way both sides benefit - more joy, vitality and connection.
During bootcamps, young athletes exercise together with elderly people who often rely on wheelchairs or walkers. The wheelchairs are cleverly used as part of the workout. While young people are physically challenged, the elderly encourage them and do light exercises themselves. The result? An energetic atmosphere where sports and social contact come together seamlessly. This unique concept promotes exercise, encourages social interaction and creates close bonds between young and old.
The Social Sports School enables encounters between people who would otherwise never meet. Valuable, and with regularity, lasting relationships develop between athletes and the elderly. In doing so, we contribute to strong social structures and resilient communities.
This initiative is part of our Sociale Gezondheid (Social Health program) - in which we show that working on your social network is also working on your health. Because those who feel connected feel better.
