Social venture checklist To distinguish between social and commercial investments in a well-substantiated way, we use a social venture checklist, which is a questionnaire focussing on investment practice and dealing with themes derived from the literature on social investment. The checklist has been developed in close collaboration with the Chair for Social Venturing & Entrepreneurship at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. The social character of an existing or new business is derived from the answers to 16 questions addressing five themes. The ensuing score is put on a scale of 0 to 100 and weighed against the other questions. Investments qualify as social if they score a total between 60 and 100. They are commercial if they score between 0 and 40. With a score between 40 and 60, the classification of the investment is subjected to an even more detailed analysis, and a decision is made on that basis.
