The Noaber Foundation is an organization governed by Dutch law with a public welfare goal (article 24, paragraph 4, of the Registration & Succession law). Donations are given to organizations and projects that aim for societal renewal. ‘Noaber’ is the Eastern and Northern dialect Dutch word for ‘neighbor’. From the beginning, ‘noabership’ was put into practice in the Netherlands : people helped each other when it was needed or desired. In a dialect translation of the bible we also encounter the word ‘noaber’. This occurs when Jesus is asked : “Who is my nearest (‘noaber’)?” In reply to the question, Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10 :25-37). ‘Noabership’ and the parable of the Good Samaritan are both sources of inspiration for the Noaber Foundation’s collaborators, work and vision.
